The Nigerian Navy, under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, has recovered approximately 80,000 litres of crude oil in two separate anti-crude oil theft operations in Delta.
This is contained in an operational report by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, made available on Tuesday.
Folorunsho said the first operation was conducted by NNS DELTA on Sept. 21, in the Oteghele general area, and resulted in the discovery of a large dugout reservoir containing approximately 30,000 litres of crude oil.
He added that in a separate operation on Sept. 23, personnel recovered another 50,000 litres of crude oil in a large dugout reservoir in the Obodo Amadino general area.
He said that the recovered crude oil was handled in accordance with established procedures.
The naval spokesman also said that personnel of NNS DELTA and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), conducted a joint operation on Sept. 22, against suspected illicit drug activities in the Warri general area.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of approximately 15 Kilo Grammes of suspected Cannabis sativa, 0.5 gramme of cocaine and 0.5 gramme of methamphetamine (crystal meth).
“The suspects and recovered substances were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action”, he said.
According to Folorunsho, the combined operations demonstrate the navy’s ability to address multiple dimensions of maritime and coastal insecurity, while leveraging inter-agency cooperation to disrupt criminal activity within its area of responsibility.
