Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intercepted three disassembled canoes intended for notorious terrorist leader Shehu Bagewaye, disrupting planned insurgent movements across riverine terrain in Zamfara State.

The covert operation, executed on August 23, 2026, by Sector 2 troops, followed actionable intelligence revealing that Bagewaye had procured the watercraft from Yauri Local Government Area in Kebbi State.

According to military sources, the canoes were being moved toward Zamfara to enable fighters to cross river obstacles, expanding their operational mobility and capacity to target vulnerable rural communities.

Upon sighting the advancing troops, the individuals conveying the disassembled canoes abandoned the cargo and fled. The recovered logistics remain in military custody, while intelligence and tracking efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects involved.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed the development in an official statement, emphasising that the successful intercept highlights the role of intelligence-led operations in neutralising terrorist networks before they execute attacks.

The Joint Task Force reiterated its commitment to dismantling insurgent supply lines across the North West and urged members of the public to maintain active cooperation with security forces by providing timely, credible information.
