Nigerian military troops have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, along with his wife, two children, and 25 other individuals following a failed kidnapping attempt in Zamfara State.
The operation was detailed in an official military report released on Wednesday.
According to the report, troops from the CSI Battalion VI/Combat Team 2, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, responded to an emergency distress call around 1:30 a.m. on July 28 at Barkeji Village in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged the heavily armed abductors in a firefight, successfully securing the freedom of all 29 victims.
Tragically, one local security personnel lost his life during the encounter, while a civilian sustained injuries. Troops arrested one suspected terrorist at the scene, who remains in military custody for questioning.
Simultaneous Operations Across Plateau and Kaduna
The operational updates highlighted several other recent interventions by security forces across the North-Central region:
Mangu LGA, Plateau State: Troops under Operation SAFE HAVEN responded to a terrorist attack in Gimti Jarawa Village at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Security forces rescued four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds and evacuated them to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care.
Bokkos LGA, Plateau State: Military forces foiled another abduction attempt in Hottom Village, successfully rescuing one victim and recovering a motorcycle before reuniting the individual with their family.
Sanga LGA, Kaduna State: Responding to reports of kidnapping activity in Ungwan Zange Village around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, troops discovered that attackers had shot a local resident and abducted his two children. Search and rescue operations are currently underway to track the assailants and secure the children’s release.
