The police on Tuesday, dragged a 52-year-old man before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged N10 million fraud.

The defendant, Wale Adelani, is standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud, stealing, forgery and false representation.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence in February 2023 , in Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N10 million from one Mr Michael Osatuyi, under the pretence of helping him to secure a government appointment.

The defendant was alleged to have presented himself to the complainant, as Special Adviser (SA) on crude oil to President Bola Tinubu.

He was alleged to have forged a signature and a Federal Government seal, on a fake letter of appointment which he issued to the complainant.

The prosecution said that the defendant knew that all his representations were false .

According to him, the defendant stole the money from the complainant, and converted same to his personal use.

The offences contravene the provisions of section 390 (9), 419, 467, 484 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2.5 million, with two sureties in like sum.

The court held that one of the sureties must be the owner and resident of a landed property, adding that the property must have a survey plan and agreement.

The court held that the second surety must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case until March 19, for hearing. (NAN)
