Lufthansa cabin crew union begins strike over poor pay

Admin December 27, 2019

GERMANWINGS

GERMANWINGS

The Ufo cabin crew union, on Friday embarked on a three-day strike at Lufthansa’s low-cost airline subsidiary Germanwings.

According to the union, the strike is expected to extend to 2020.

As part of Ufo’s push for better pay and benefits for 21,000 members of staff, the union organised a two-day strike in November that led to the cancellation of 1,500 flights by Lufthansa.

The union had threatened to extend strikes to Lufthansa’s four German subsidiaries, namely, Germanwings, Eurowings Germany, Lufthansa City Line and SunExpress Germany, but subsequently agreed to refrain from further labour action while negotiations were ongoing.

Ufo, however, told its members earlier that mediators were unsuccessful in their attempt to find short-term solutions for the dispute over the Christmas holidays.(dpa/NAN)
