LG Polls: We don’t care who wins, but credible election – El Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Saturday said his main concern was to ensure that the ongoing local councils election in the state is fair, credible and transparent, not which party wins.

El-Rufa’i made the remarks in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna  shortly after he cast his vote at Unguwan Sarki polling unit 024.
According to him,  his administration wants to set example that Nigerians can hold credible elections without distorting the process.

“We are interested in seeing credible elections “he said, adding that the use of electronic voting machine has made the voting process simple, easy and credible.

He however said his only concern was that the accreditation was done manually instead of using the card reader.

According to him, the problem emanated from the refusal of INEC to allow the state electoral commission access to the card reader machines.

“After all our engagement with the INEC and assurance, at the last minute to the elections they said they could not provide us with the six thousand card readers that we needed because they are preparing for Osun and Ekiti elections and the 2019 elections,” he said.
In spite of that, he said the process was smooth, adding, “after I was  accredited the voting was smooth, it took less than 10 seconds.
” I think is a good beginning and I hope it would end as it began
“We heard of issues in two local governments of Jaba and Kaura in southern Kaduna. The electoral commission has to postpone the elections; they would fix a new date for the elections.
“We hope these two local governments will concentrate on security and logistics resources on the day of the scheduled election to avoid what happened there.”
