Leicester Inch Closer to Premier League Title Than Ever, Beat Saints 1-0

Admin April 4, 2016

kante ngoloLeicester, the kings of King Power Stadium, moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with six games left after captain Wes Morgan headed a rare goal to earn them a 1-0 victory over  Southampton. But the victory which pushes them seven clear points ahead of Tottenham and 11 points over Arsenal was almost marred by controversial refereeing in which Southampton were denied at least one clear penalty out of two probable penalty calls.

The Foxes skipper connected with Christian Fuchs’ first-half cross to score his first goal of the season. France wonder kid, N’golo Kante, was again at his very best driving the Leicester midfield; he was voted man of the match for his tireless input.

Southampton came closest when Sadio Mane rounded Kasper Schmeichel, but his goal-bound shot was superbly blocked by Danny Simpson whose hand helped turn the ball out of harm’s way. .

Claudio Ranieri’s side have now won five of their last six matches by a 1-0 scoreline, and after main title rivals Tottenham slipped up with a draw at Liverpool on Saturday, the most unlikely title triumph in Premier League history must surely be considered a probability now.

Elsewhere, Manchester United kept hope alive for European football next season when they edged past Everton by a lone strike from Anthony Martial at Old Trafford.
