The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has partnered the Chartered Institution of Waste Management, to implement professional certification courses in waste and resource management.

LAWMA said in a statement on Thursday that the achievement was the product of the partnership between its Academy and SafeEnviro, an environmental consulting firm, based in London.

Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, said that the partnership was approved by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Odumboni said that the development would create an opportunity for interested persons to run professional certification courses in waste management and related disciplines.

“It is gratifying for the Agency to have this partnership at this time approved by the governor, to open up opportunities for individual scholarship.

“These are also investment opportunities and wealth creation in waste management to add value to the waste management sector of the state,” Odumboni said.

He said that the development would instill best practice in waste management, which would ultimately bring forth cleaner environment that would guarantee good health and promote environmental sustainability.

The LAWMA head said that interested persons could run their courses and become chartered.

According to Odumboni, the collaboration between LAWMA Academy and SafeEnviro UK will help build change agents for a sustainable environment in the state and beyond.

He urged residents to take advantage of the partnership and be certified, as certificates would be issued at the end of the courses.

Odumboni called on those interested in relevant courses to visit LAWMA Academy’s website, www.lawmaacademy.com, for registration and inquiries, adding that while most of the courses were free, others would attract fees. (NAN)
