LASTVEB PARTNERS SLOT, GIZ TO TRAIN 130 RESIDENTS IN COMPUTER, MOBILE PHONE REPAIRS

As part of measures to make technical and vocational education interesting to the public, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) has partnered with SLOT and Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to train 130 participants in Computer and Mobile Phone Repairs at Government Technical College, Agidingbi.

The Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez, stated that the training programme is specifically designed to impact positively on the skills set of beneficiaries, sharpen their entrepreneurial skills, broaden their horizon, provide competitive advantage and equip them towards acquiring 21st-Century skills in line with the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

“The potential of the informal sector in the area of creativity and the value addition are too important to be ignored by any forward-looking government. Recognising the importance of skill acquisition to wealth creation, the Lagos State Government has repositioned the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) with a cardinal mandate to support the establishment and growth of small scale businesses to create job opportunities, which include but not limited to providing soft loans to genuine and credible skilled entrepreneurs”.

lagos stateMs. Azeez advised the 130 participants to show diligence, passion and commitment to the partnership training, saying that 100% punctuality is expected as she urged them to be proactive and maximise the opportunity of the free nine months vocational training to improve their chances of immediate employment or self-employment.

The representative of SLOT and Head of its Training Academy, Mr. Collins Uwadia mentioned that the plan for the trainees is to position them alongside their contemporaries globally, explaining that the programme is focused on producing employers of labour and skilled professionals in their areas of specialisation.

“At the end of the free nine months vocational training, the lucky ones among you can be employed by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), which has requested for graduates in computer engineering and skilled mobile phone technicians.
