LASG TAKES DOWN CRITICALLY DISTRESSED STRUCTURE IN FESTAC EXTENSION, AMUWO-ODOFIN

Admin February 1, 2023

Feb. 1, 2023

In a bid to avoid building collapse and its attendant effects, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) on Tuesday demolished a critically distressed four-floor structure located at Festac Extension Estate, off Eko Akete Road, Mile 2, Amuwo-Odofin.

Political Economistng reports that the occupants of the building had been evacuated over two years ago and concerns had been raised by residents in the area over the abandoned building as it may be a source of hideout for criminals.

Speaking on the demolition exercise, the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, stated that before the demolition of the building the Agency had followed due processes by first evacuating all its occupants to prevent loss of lives and serving all necessary notices including a demolition notice.

Whilst thanking members of Amuwo-Odofin Community Development Association (CDA) and concerned citizens of the area for the early reporting of the distressed building, Oki charged Lagosians to emulate the exemplary action of members of the community by reporting cases of distressed and defective structures to LASBCA on email: lasbca@lagosstate.gov.ng, lasbcalag@gmail.com or call 0816214646.

He also urged building owners/developers to do periodic checks and maintenance of their buildings as this will help buildings stand the test of time and curb building collapse in the state.
