LASG ASSURES LABOUR UNIONS OF COMMITMENT TO WELLBEING, WELFARE OF STAFF

Admin December 10, 2021

Dec. 10, 2021

The Honourable Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, has assured labour unions of the State Government’s commitment to the wellbeing and welfare of all public servants in the State.

The Commissioner gave the assurance at the meeting of the Lagos State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), affirming that the present administration gives priority to workers’ welfare, citing an example of Mr. Governor’s recent retrospective approval to over 3000 Officers, who acquired additional qualifications without following the laid down policy.

Ponnle said that despite the challenges of the past few months occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic and #EndSARS protest, among others, the current administration was able to perform its obligations to workers.

She commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his prompt responses to requests by the Labour Unions and advised civil servants to improve their dedication to duty, noting that workers have to be committed to their statutory responsibilities in order to enhance service delivery to Lagosians.

The Commissioner also applauded the leadership of Labour Unions for their maturity in dealing with the government, imploring them to always see disruption of services or strikes as a last option while keeping an open mind during engagements with representatives of the government.

Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour and Industrial Relations, Comrade Babatunde Williams, said the State Government will continue to prioritise the welfare of the workforce, urging Public Servants to discharge their duties honourably for the good of the State.

He extolled the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his effectiveness in handling labour union issues that have prevented disruptive industrial actions in the State.

Comrade Williams said that the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu will continue to ensure the sustainability of the existing cordial and peaceful relationship with Labour Unions, noting that adequate consideration will be given to all requests by the various unions in the State public service.
