LAGOS TASKFORCE INTENSIFIES CLEAN-UP OPERATIONS ON LEKKI COASTAL ROAD

… Impounds 55 Okada on Restricted Areas

The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified the clean-up operations along the Lekki Coastal Road/Maroko axis of the State as part of efforts to rid the state of illegal structures.

The exercise which was led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye was a follow-up to the directive of the state government to remove all shanties and other unauthorised structures along the axis.

The Chairman disclosed that the operation was to further serve as a deterrent to hoodlums nursing the idea of returning to those areas to rebuild the already destroyed shanties.

Jejeloye stated that the promise made by the State Government to completely clear makeshift buildings and shanties that have defaced the area for years would not be allowed to spring up again as mechanisms have been put in place to always checkmate any recalcitrant tendencies.

“We have cleared out the large expanse of land more than twice but we made it clear the last time that it would no longer be business as usual for squatters. No shanty or makeshift buildings would be allowed to be erected here anymore. They do not only pose environmental risk but also constitute security risk which is against the Lagos State Development Plan”, he reiterated.

He, however, promised to monitor the coastal road round the clock till the Road network is completed.

While on patrol with his team to Yaba, Oyingbo and Agege Rail Tracks, CSP Jejeloye revealed that the operatives are monitoring and have detailed officials to ensure that strict compliance with the State Government’s directive for occupants to vacate the rail tracks is strictly adhered to.

The Chairman, who also led his team to an enforcement exercise against Okada operators on Highways and restricted routes around Ikota and Lekki environs, reaffirmed the commitment of the Agency to stamp out transport infractions across the state.

While vowing to continue the enforcement to completely rid the roads of okada menace, CSP Jejeloye appealed to commuters to desist from patronising Okada operators, reminding intending passengers that they are equally as guilty as the riders according to the law.
