LAGOS TASKFORCE EVICTS ILLEGAL GARAGES, IMPOUNDS 35 VEHICLES IN JIBOWU

The Lagos State Taskforce has cleared several illegal garages obstructing the free flow of traffic at Jibowu in the Yaba axis of the State as 35 vehicles were impounded for illegal parking along the Jibowu corridor.

The enforcement operation which took place at night was coordinated by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye who described the actions of some transport operators as mannerless as they deliberately occupied a large portion of the road to either load goods or pick up passengers.

Decrying the spate of illegal garages situated in the area, Jejeloye disclosed that residents and commuters who ply the axis are always subjected to hours of delay and frustration due to the activities of bus operators who have converted the road to bus stations and mini garages.

“It is sad to see these transport operators deliberately stationing their vehicles on the main road meant for free vehicular movement. Their actions have constantly resulted in increased travel time and unnecessary chaos”, he affirmed.

The Chairman further disclosed that the vehicles impounded have been registered for infraction while their owners would soon have their days in court.

In his words, “It is high time we end this irrational act in the state. We will ensure constant patrol and monitoring of the Jibowu corridor and other areas particularly at night when such infractions usually occur. We will ensure anyone caught inflicting unnecessary discomfort to road users is arrested and charged to court”.

Jejeloye, who warned transport operators across the state to desist from such illegal practices, urged them to always make use of designated parks and garages to carry out their businesses.

Declaring that traffic build-up caused by illegal garages and parking will no longer be tolerated, he averred that traffic bottlenecks are not natural, neither were they created by God but are caused by human activities which have to be regulated and checked.
