Lagos task force raids illicit drug spots, arrests 20 suspects

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit has arrested 20 suspected drug dealers in an operation carried out in Egbeda and Gowon Estate areas of the state.

Mr Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed this in a post on his social media handle on Thursday.

Wahab said that the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday in a targeted enforcement operation against illicit drug peddling.

“During an enforcement operation on Wednesday, task force raided and apprehended 20 peddlers at dark spots where illicit drugs are made available for sales and use in Gowon Estate.

“The locations include: the notorious 31 road intersection, Wole Omo-Osho and Idoani streets, as well as the Egbeda market area on Egbeda-Idimu road, ” he said.

He said that the operation led to the complete removal of makeshift stalls located at the junction of Idoani street, as discreet intelligence gathered showed that they were being used as safe havens by criminals, who came from near and far.

“During the operation, various illicit substances were recovered; cash proceeds from the illegal activities were also recovered.”

According to the commissioner, all suspects apprehended will be charged to court accordingly.
