The vision of the Lagos State Government to digitalise its education sector is advancing with the acquisition of another set of 60 Teaching and Learning devices donated to Public Schools in Lagos State by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

The digital items comprising projectors, tablets and internet routers were presented to Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the State to aid the use of the Nigerian Learning Passport (NLP) platform by teachers and students.

In her address at the handover ceremony held at the Agidingbi Senior Grammar School, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo reiterated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s determination to enhance and increase the quality of education across the State to global standards.

Her words, “This handover is a continuation of the process of digitalisation of our education sector. The students should ensure to use every opportunity to study diligently, in and outside the classroom, in order to improve themselves. These devices will make teaching and learning more detailed, interactive and fun for the Teachers as well as the Students”.

The Commissioner, who was represented by Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, restated that qualitative education is the bedrock of development in any nation,

While emphasising the need to keep up with new innovations and technologies because the 21st Century is a digital period, Adefisayo commended the magnanimity of UNICEF as a strategic partner in quality education delivery.

Mr. Kayode Ojelade, a Senior Official in the Office of Education Quality Assurance, enlightened the students and teachers with short video clips on how to effectively use the devices on the NLP platform for learning purposes.

The presentation of the devices to the beneficiaries in Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary schools in each Education District was done by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, supported by the Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries of the Districts, Principals and Representatives of the Parents’ forum at the event.

Recall that the Nigerian Learning Passport (NLP) platform was established by UNICEF and endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with Lagos State. It was designed as an additional digital learning application for optimal teaching with a broad range of subject content to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
