The woman  leader of Balogun Market, (Iyaloja), Alhaja Lutifat Ojikutu, has advised Martins and other market  leaders  in Lagos to purchase industrial generators for use  to avoid constant fire outbreak.

Ojikutu gave the advice  when she visited the scene on Thursday.

According to her, the traders in the  building can purchase a big  generator that can serve all of them  instead of engaging in indiscriminate use of small generators.

“I learnt that each shop purchased mini- size  generator and they all positioned them on their staircases and someone was always  fuelling   the generators while it is on .

“She said that the place that got burnt was Fred McQueen, off Martins not Balogun Market.

“In so many buildings at Balogun Market,  they purchased a generator that powered a particular building and we also have fire extinguishers in each shop as part of safety measures,” she said.

She appealed to various market leaders in Lagos  State to try and educate their members  on safety measures  that would make them avoid loss of lives and properties.

Some parts of the popular Balogun Market on Lagos Island were also  gutted by fire on Wednesday. NAN
