Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has secured the National Board for Technical Education’s (NBTE) approval to run National Diploma Programmes beginning from the Y2021/2022 session.

A statement issued by Mr. Akorede Ojomu, Provost, Lagos State Cooperative College, stated that the approval was contained in a letter signed by Mal. Sama’ila Tanko, the Acting Director, Monotechnic Programmes Department on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NBTE.

The Provost explained that the Accreditation Inspection Committee of NBTE had earlier visited the College in September 2021 to carry out an assessment of programmes and facilities at the institution towards determining its ability to run National Diploma programmes in Co-operative Economics and Management as well as Micro Finance and Enterprise Development.

Ojomu emphasised that the accreditation has opened up the avenue to use the cooperative movement as one of the instruments to eradicate poverty and promote economic growth of the State, just as cooperative knowledge and skills development would be acquired in the institution for effective operation of cooperative businesses and accounts.

The Provost posited that the College will, ultimately, help young Nigerians to realise career aspirations and develop their potentials for the benefit of the State and the country at large.

Recall that the Lagos State Cooperative College was established by the State Government in 2012 to provide an enabling environment for the provision of sound Cooperative Education, Economic

Empowerment and the acquisition of appropriate entrepreneurial skills to enable members run lucrative cooperative business.
