The Kogi Government has reassured the public of its firm commitment to justice and child protection, following the unfortunate case involving an abused minor that recently came to light.

This is contained in a statement on Thursday in Lokoja signed by Mrs. Fatimah Momoh, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.

The government thanked concerned citizens and stakeholders for their swift intervention and for drawing attention to the case.

According to the Commissioner, the matter has been formally reported to the appropriate authorities and investigations are already underway.

She said the minor, whose identity remains protected, is currently in safe custody and receiving appropriate care and support.

“We appreciate the concern shown by members of the public and assure everyone that due process is being followed.

“The child is safe, and our team is working diligently to ensure justice is served, ”Momoh said.

“The Ministry, invoking the Child Rights Law of Kogi State (2009) and the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (2015), cautioned against the circulation of unblurred images or videos that may reveal the identity of the victim.

“Sharing such material could inflict further trauma, cause stigmatisation, and complicate the process of reintegrating the child into society,” she warned.

The commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to the protection of children and all survivors of abuse, urging the public to rely solely on verified government communication channels for accurate information on the case.

She thanked the public for continued support and cooperation, emphasising that the case, like all others, is receiving the full attention of the government.

“For updates and verified details, members of the public are encouraged to contact the Ministry through the following numbers: 08033575383 (Secretary, State Technical Workshop on GBV), 07039294675 (Legal Adviser), and 07053545711 (SAHC),” the Commissioner added.
