Kemabonta joins AfICTF

Admin July 29, 2019

A former Director, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Inye Kemabonta, has joined the Executive Council, African ICT Foundation (AfICTF) as Policy and Regulatory Affairs Director.

The President of the Foundation, Mr Tony Ojobo, made this known in a statement in Lagos on Monday.

He said that the former director was appointed to provide vision and leadership in the development of AfICTF’s strategy on ICT Policy in Africa.

Kemabonta, a former Director of Standards and Regulation at NITDA, would also be engaged at ICT events globally for the Foundation.

Ojobo said that Kemabonta was appointed into the Executive Council of the Foundation in line with the existing template of appointment introduced by the Foundation in 2009.

In his acceptance letter, Kemabonta said Africa had so much potential and opportunities in ICT that information technology regulation and policy development were areas a lot could be achieved in a short and sustainable manner.

He said that he was eager to begin work on a pet project, ‘Africa’s Digital Transformation through Regulation and Policy Development’, based on his position as a director.

“Nigeria may be a good starting point for the project. An aspect of the project is ‘Computer in Every Home Campaign’ which I am eager to kick start as soon as possible,”  he said.

Kemabonta is an Information Technology Attorney, Consultant, Public Speaker and Trainer.

He helped to develop several policies and regulations, among which was the Local Content Initiative in ICT, which had shaped the Nigerian ICT industry. (NAN)
