Kaduna Residents Protest Over Farmland Pollution from Kaduna Refinery.

Channels Television reports that,  residents of the Kapam community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have staged a protest against the alleged environmental pollution of their farms and community by the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC).

The protesters, mostly women said that the chemical released by the Kaduna Refinery three days ago has devastated their farms, causing the death of their animals, and also affected the health of the residents mainly children and women.

Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the protesters blocked the main gate of the Kaduna Refinery, thereby preventing the staff of the company from accessing their offices.

The women complained about the air and water pollution, which they claim has led to health problems and affected their livelihoods.

They also expressed frustration over the refinery’s failure to implement adequate safety measures and compensate affected communities.

They are demanding that the federal government and the management of the refinery take immediate action, to address the environmental hazards posed by the refinery’s operations.

The management of the Kaduna Refinery is yet to make an official statement over the allegation raised by the angry protesters.
