JAMB to develop some community schools in Bwari Area council – Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says plans are underway to adopt and develop some poor schools in the Bwari Area Council, FCT, in an effort to give back to the society.
The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this when the Chairman of the council, Mr Musa Dikko, visited him in his office on Thursday in Abuja.
Oloyede said that the board has set up a task force to adopt a school each, at the primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels where it can improve on through intervention programme.
“We have to look for the poorest of your schools and adopt and see if we can improve on them within a year or two, so that we can measure their challenges as well as measure the impact of our intervention.
“We have a whole department that will go there and teach, check the level of infrastructure and compare our input versus our output after two or three years.
Oloyede said that the board is also working with a committee on developing the standard of the council’s stadium for the benefit of sports and its lovers.
According to him, a standard stadium in the community would not only attract sporting activities but will help boost the development of the area in terms of business.
“Once we have the necessary assurance, we will do the needful by giving back to the community.”
He, however, urged the council to be practical in ensuring peaceful co-existence among the people, while calling on the traditional rulers in the community to avoid breakdown of law and order in the area.
“Whether we like it or not, God has put us together and we must learn to live with each other. We must accommodate one another to be able to develop more,” he said.
Earlier, the chairman of the council, Mr Musa Dikko said that the purpose of the visit was to re-affirm the council’s commitment to ensure security of lives and property in the area.
Dikko said that the council being the host to prominent institutions in the FCT is committed to ensuring a peaceful environment is maintained.
According to him, serious measures have been taken and accords entered, to give peace a chance in the area following the recent disruption of peace.
He said that while both traditional leaders in the area have seen reason to accommodate each other, some bad politicians have tried to escalate the matter to discredit the leadership of the council and the ruling party.
Dikko also urged the board to be patient with the ongoing road rehabilitation, which has discouraged the influx of people to the area, saying this would soon become a thing of the past.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Vice Chairman of the council, Heads of department and top members of staff of the council as well as members of staff of JAMB were at the meeting.
