Insecurity: You have failed, resign now; Reps tell service chiefs

Obviously tired of the excuses by the nation’s security apparatchik members of the House of Representatives have asked service chiefs to resign their positions.

In the eyes of the Reps, they have failed the nation as they have proved incapable of containing the growing insecurity in the nation.

The decision was part of the resolutions reached after the lawmakers had a debate on the nation’s security during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja. The issue of deteriorating security situation in the country has been in public focus in recent week as more Nigerians are felled by Boko Haram insurgents, bandits or fallen victims of kidnappers.

Representative Abubakar Fulata, had told his colleagues in the chamber that the service chiefs had outlived their usefulness hence the need for them to resign.

He argued that keeping them will be to the detriment of the country.

The Speaker, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila put the question as moved by Futala, to the lawmakers whether the service chiefs should resign and leave their offices.

A majority of the lawmakers answered in the affirmative and the resolution was passed.

Some members who voiced their opinion after the plenary said there was no need for the service chiefs to stay a day longer in office. They urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the service chiefs and inject more bite in the security system.
