INEC begins online CVR

Admin June 28, 2021
June 28, 2021

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the online continuous voters registration (CVR) exercise for new voters and others.

The online registration portal affords new voters as from Monday, the opportunity to pre-register and book a date for onsite registration while those who have registered in the past can access the platform to review their voter registration status.

Some of the features on the portal include: Change of voting location to another polling unit (transfer), request for new card or reissue, location of PVC if you’re yet to collect one.

Registered voters can also request for replacement of damaged or defaced Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) as well as update or correction of information on Voter’s Card.

New voters are only required to fill the forms on the portal with their biodata and required documents, after which they are expected to visit an INEC state or local government office for physical registration.

The INEC ICT Director Engr Chidi Nwafor while speaking on Channels Television noted that REGISTRANTS have up to 14 days upon logging in to the Portal to complete the Registration.

He added that the 14 days Grace is to allow for ample time to go through the Registration and make Corrections where necessary.

The physical registration is scheduled o begin from July 19.

Recall that the INEC boss, Yakubu Mahmood on the 24th of June, at the official launch of the online registration portal for the resumption of CVR, said the registration of voters is at the heart of democratic elections.

Mahmood added that the expansion of voter access to polling units is to make new polling units available to voters during the CVR.

“The Commission is also aware of its responsibility under the law, to provide every eligible Nigerian the opportunity to register, irrespective of where they live or other circumstances of life,” he noted.
