Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has revealed that over 380 suspects have been arrested and more than 230 convicted within the first two months of an intensified anti-drug campaign in the state.
The governor disclosed this on Thursday in Kano during his address to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Yusuf stated that the operational successes were recorded following the establishment of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026, alongside the signing of an Executive Order aimed at curbing drug proliferation, thuggery, and violent crime.
He noted that since its deployment, the multi-agency task force has successfully dislodged multiple drug dens and criminal hideouts across the state.
Describing the fight against illicit substances and criminality as a collective duty, Governor Yusuf called for active collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community groups, and parents.
He specifically advised the youth to distance themselves from substance abuse and criminal behavior, encouraging them instead to leverage opportunities in education, agriculture, technology, entrepreneurship, vocational skills, and the creative sector.
Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies, enhancing community intelligence networks, and tackling underlying socio-economic drivers of crime to guarantee a safe environment for socio-economic growth in Kano State.
