The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is tracking 33 constituency projects with a combined value of N2,106,830,965 across the three senatorial zones of Lagos State.

Mrs. Mary Omonoyan, Assistant Director, Public Education Unit, ICPC, Lagos, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

According to her, the projects, which are being executed by various Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), are spread across the Lagos Central, Lagos East and Lagos West Senatorial Districts.

“The monitoring exercise is part of the ICPC’s ongoing efforts to ensure that constituency projects funded by the federal government are properly implemented and delivered to the communities for which they were approved.

“The 33 projects are spread across various sectors including road infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply and electricity.

“The ICPC’s monitoring of the projects is expected to last for seven days to ascertain whether the projects were executed according to approved specifications.

“It will also ascertain whether contractors delivered the required quality of work and whether the intended beneficiaries are receiving the expected benefits,” Omonoyan said.

She said that the tracking of the Lagos projects was therefore significant given the scale of public funds involved, with more than N2.1 billion committed to the 33 projects.

“The Commission’s intervention also underscores the importance of effective oversight of constituency projects, particularly amid growing public demand for accountability in the management of government resources.

“The ICPC has, in recent years, intensified its constituency projects monitoring activities across the country as part of measures to identify abandoned, poorly executed or non-existent projects and ensure that public funds are not diverted.

“For residents and communities in the three Lagos senatorial zones, the monitoring exercise can provide an opportunity for greater scrutiny of projects approved for their areas and encourage citizens to demand accountability from implementing agencies and contractors,” she said.
