How Okowa Emerged Delta PDP Guber Flagbearer

Admin December 9, 2014

ifeanyi okowaEverything took a spin in under 48 hours, Political jostling, brinkmanship, solidarity and sentiments coalesced into a formidable weapon to deliver the Peoples Democratic Party guber ticket to Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa . He polled 406 votes to beat his closest rival, David Edevbie, who polled 299 votes.

The gubernatorial seat had been zoned to Delta North, but some elements in the party rallied to upend the zoning arrangement by backing David Edevbie, from Delta Central Senatorial District, barely 24 hours to the Primaries.

However, the pendulum swung in favour of Okowa as delegates from the three senatorial zones clung to the principle of zoning and roundly voted for Okowa representing Delta North. His emergence has paved the way for the emergence of a Delta North person as governor of Delta State.

“We are all for peace in Delta State and behind power shift to Delta North Senatorial District,” they said.

How They Polled:

Ifeanyi Okowa- 406 votes

David Edevbie -299 votes

Victor Ochei -185 votes

Ndudi Elumelu – 50

Godsday Orubebe – 49

Godwill Obielum – 22,

Sylvester Monye – 10

Ovie Omo Agege – 10

Sam Obi – 10 votes

Peter Okocha – 6 votes

Tony Obuh, 5 votes

Charles Emetulu – 4 votes

Kenneth Gbagi- 2 votes
