Gunmen attack Bayelsa police station; kill one, injure three

Admin September 6, 2017

Nigeria Police

The serial gun attack by suspected oil thieves on Bayelsa residents continued on Tuesday when some unidentified gunmen killed one policeman and injured three others during an attack on Kolo Police Station in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State.

The nature and circumstance of the attack has led to fingers pointing in the direction of oil thieves who had been fighting back at security men since the Federal Government tightened the noose of illegal bunkering in the creeks. A witness said the attack happened around 8:00 am on Tuesday.

The gunmen were said to have taken the policemen by surprise in a Gestapo manner, fired several shots into the air and on some police personnel during which one cop died with others injured. They were said to have escaped moments later when the police fired reprisal shots at them.

Barely two days ago, a similar attack was said to have occurred in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state where a local boat owner was abducted.
