Social media post has claimed yet another political office holder as Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has sacked his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Austin Pelemo, over his Facebook post.

Pelemo in a Facebook post, while congratulating the wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Agboola Ajayi, on her birthday, had described her as the “Acting First Lady of Ondo State”. The post was said to have been brought to the notice of the Governor by one of his associates who allegedly stoked the fire by insinuating that the post was deliberate to undermine the governor’s wife.

Intermediaries were said to have weighed in, pleading that the post must have been made in error by Pelemo.

Insiders said Governor Akeredolu was miffed and he quickly directed that Pelemo be dismissed with immediate effect.

The statement announcing his dismissal which was signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo, said the “directive is with immediate effect; and it underscores the need to instill sanity and nip in the bud, divisive acts and tendencies inimical to the existing cordiality and cohesion in the administration led by the Governor.

“While wishing him well in his future endeavours, Mr Governor further directs Pelemo to hand over every government property in his possession to the Deputy Chief of Staff without further delay.”
