Freedom of The Press is The Bedrock of Our Democracy- Atiku

Admin January 7, 2019

Let June 12 inspire promotion of democratic principles – Atiku

PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku

People’s Democratic Party, Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has said that freedom of the press is the bedrock of our democracy and nothing should be done to compromise it.

He said this while reacting to the sealing of Daily Trust Newspaper offices in Abuja and Maiduguri, the Borno state capital by the military on Sunday over alleged “disclosure of such classified military operations, thus undermining national security”, the military had said in a statement.

According to Atiku in a twitter messgage, if Daily Trust as an institution or any of its staff is in breach of the law, “I recommend that due process be followed and not a resort to the jackboot.

It would be recalled that the paper disclosed that two of its staff (Maiduguri regional editor and a reporter) were arrested.
