Foundation unveils mobile app to monitor, report Human Rights abuses

Cleen Foundation, a non-governmental organisation has inaugurated a real-time documentation mobile application to help monitor, document and report human rights abuses in the country in collaboration with UK.

Mr Benson Olugbuo, Executive Director of the foundation said this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

Olugbuo said that the application was designed specifically for Android phones with features that aid easy documentation of human rights violations, corruption and conduct of security personnel, especially in the enforcement of government’s directives.

According to him, the application is designed to meet the average man’s android internet connection, which could be limited or poor in connectivity in various part of the country.

“Cleen Mobile is available on Google Play store on android phones. It is designed to observe the activities of security agents deployed for COVID-19 policing duties throughout the country.

“The application will also be used to monitor the conduct of security officers deployed for election security management in Edo and Ondo State.

“The Mobile application enables data collection through structured forms with capabilities of attaching photo, video and audio files.

“All of the content and data stored in the application are encrypted. The data remains inaccessible unless the application is unlocked thereby providing several layers of security for users,” he said.

He said that in the settings of the application, users could activate the verification mode and once activated, photos, videos, and audio records would automatically be captured in its metadata.

FoundationOlugbuo noted that the metadata could be used to corroborate, verify and authenticate facts and evidence.

He said that it could be used to verify event, source of report and location where the picture, video or audio was captured thereby limiting the upload and usage of fake pictures and videos on the platform.

He urged the public to download and use the application where their rights were being violated to curb human right violations and deepen democracy in the country.(NAN)
