FCCPC shuts Chinese restaurant for declining service to Nigerians

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has shut down a Chinese eatery in the Victoria Island, Lagos State for refusing to serve Nigerians.

In a tweet accompanied by photos of the eatery, the FCCPC explained that the staff of Haufei Restaurant and mall, located on 33 Aboyade Close, admitted that it was the business policy of the owners not to serve Nigerians.

“Today, FCCPC closed Haufei Restaurant and mall 33 Aboyade Cole, VI, based on credible intelligence and surveillance that the business declines service to Nigerians”.

“Staff of the business admitted this is the policy and our operatives experienced the same. Both now closed for further regulatory action,” the tweet read.

The owner of the said restaurant and president of the Chinese investors association for development and promotion in Nigeria in his response to the tweet said,  the action is totally unacceptable, noting that those who came to the restaurant couldn’t choose from the menu. And today someone just came and locked up our place.“We have some Nigerian staff and we service all the customers, “he said.

However the Director General of the FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera noted that 2 people  were sent differently to the restaurant and they were declined service because they were Nigerians. “I made inquiries from your staff outside what the policy is, they confirmed, I came in, same thing happened to me. This representation is entirely false”!
