An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of 40-year-old Olaitan Shittu at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following allegations that he repeatedly defiled his teenage daughter.

The defendant, a security guard residing in the Egbeda area of Lagos, appeared before Chief Magistrate Omolara Kushanu on Friday facing a one-count charge of defilement.

Due to the nature of the offense, the defendant’s plea was not taken after the charge was read. Chief Magistrate Kushanu ordered that Shittu remain in custody pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case has been adjourned until June 15.

The prosecution, led by ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, informed the court that the incidents occurred between February and March 2025 at the defendant’s residence on Ishola Street.

The court heard that Shittu, a widower, lived alone with his two children. The alleged abuse came to light when the victim’s maternal grandmother visited the home and noticed physical changes in the 15-year-old girl. Concerned, the grandmother took the teenager to a hospital for a medical examination.

According to ASP Ademigbuji, the victim eventually confided in a doctor, detailing how her father had been molesting her. The medical report led to a formal police complaint and Shittu’s subsequent arrest.

The offense is said to contravene Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State (2015). Under this section of the law, individuals found guilty of defilement face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
