FAAN
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has resolved its operational disputes with e-hailing giant Bolt, officially clearing the platform to resume pick-up and drop-off services across all FAAN-managed airports nationwide.
The announcement was confirmed on Thursday in Lagos through an official statement issued by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire.
According to the agency, the resolution follows extensive engagements between both parties to establish a sustainable, secure operational framework for e-hailing services within airport corridors.
Addressing the root cause of the recent service suspension, Agbebire noted that FAAN has spent nearly a decade tackling systemic commercial transport challenges, including touting, unauthorized passenger solicitation, random pick-ups, and security risks.
Key Takeaways from FAAN’s Statement:
ACHRAMS Role Clarified: The newly introduced Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS) is a queue and rank management system, not a competitive e-hailing application. FAAN emphasized it does not seek to create a transport monopoly.
Fare Controversy Addressed: FAAN clarified that recent controversial taxi fares were not newly imposed fees or introduced by ACHRAMS. Instead, ACHRAMS merely published prevailing traditional airport taxi rates, which appeared significantly higher when compared to standard e-hailing prices.
Passenger Apology: The authority formally apologized to travelers for the inconvenience and increased local transit costs experienced during the temporary suspension of e-hailing platforms.
Ongoing Expansion: FAAN confirmed it is actively in discussions with other e-hailing operators (such as Uber) and expects to finalize similar operational agreements shortly.
The regulatory authority reassured the public that the new agreement successfully balances airport safety, accountability, and regulatory integrity with passenger convenience and freedom of choice.
