The Anambra Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Eleh, also known as Timaya, over alleged involvement in series of motorcycle -assisted robberies targeting Point -of-Sale (POS) operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement.
“The Anambra Police Command in the afternoon of today arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya”,
“He was arrested over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting POS operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital,” he said.
According to him, the arrest forms part of the command’s sustained intelligence-led efforts to track down criminal elements involved in motorcycle-enabled robberies and other related offences across the state.
During the operation police operatives recovered one motorcycle, one axe, one cutlass, and other incriminating items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.
The police spokesman said that the suspect was in police custody, as investigations continue to establish the full extent of his alleged involvement and identify other accomplices.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police (CP), Anambra Command, Mr. Nnanna Ama, as saying that the command was committed to protecting lives and property in the state.
“The command would ensure that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice in accordance with the law.”
He urged the public, particularly POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders, and other business owners, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
