Dr Tunji Alausa
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, has welcomed the official listing of the Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences (AFCOM-HS) on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal for the 2026/2027 academic session.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Dr. Alausa described the inclusion as a major milestone under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, specifically in advancing national security, healthcare delivery, and higher education.
Located within the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, the institution was established to strengthen military healthcare services, train specialized personnel, and bridge critical manpower gaps in Nigeria’s health sector.
According to the minister, the college is gearing up to admit its pioneer cohort of 100 cadets following approvals from the National Universities Commission (NUC). The institution will initially offer degree programs in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) as well as Nursing Science (B.NSc.).
“The college will integrate medical education with military officer development to equip cadets with clinical competence, professional ethics, and leadership skills required to serve effectively,” Alausa said. He added that AFCOM-HS is a pioneering institution designed specifically to meet the specialized medical needs of the Armed Forces while reinforcing the country’s overall health security.
Dr. Alausa noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader education reform strategy—the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI)—which aims to enhance the quality and practical relevance of tertiary education across Nigeria.
The minister commended key stakeholders for their contributions to bringing the project to fruition, including Minister of Defence Lt.-Gen. Christopher Musa, Minister of State for Defence Dr. Bello Matawalle, and the Technical Working Group led by Brig.-Gen. Dr. Idris Babatunde Solebo. He also acknowledged the vital roles played by the NUC, JAMB, leadership of the Armed Forces, and relevant professional regulatory bodies.
Reaffirming the Ministry of Education’s commitment to academic oversight and quality assurance, Alausa assured that the federal government will work closely with regulatory authorities to ensure AFCOM-HS maintains top-tier educational and professional standards.
He advised prospective applicants seeking entry for the 2026/2027 academic session to verify eligibility criteria, admission dates, and military selection guidelines exclusively through official JAMB and AFCOM-HS channels.
