Driver Docked For Alleged Reckless Driving

Admin January 9, 2019

The police on Wednesday docked a 37-year-old driver, Makinde Oluwaseyi, who allegedly drove a Volkswagen bus in a reckless manner in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

Oluwaseyi, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and damages.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, said that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 3
at about 8 p.m. opposite Mobile Filling Station, Idiroko road, Ota.
He said that the defendant drove a Volkswagen bus with APP 271 XW in a dangerous manner and hit one Abubakar Kido and Lateef Kido.
He added that “the two victims were critically lying down at Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta,  as a result of
injuries sustained from the accident.”
Mustapha said that Oluwaseyi also damaged an unregistered motorcycle belonging to Abubakar Kido.
He said that the offences contravened sections 6(1) 13(1) and 17 of the Federal Highway Act Cap 135 of Revised Laws of Federation, 2006.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi,
granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.
In addition, the magistrate said, sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government as part of the
bail conditions and adjourned the case until Feb. 7 for mention. (NAN)
