The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”), Dr Patrice Motsepe, a Forbes-rated billionaire, donated USD 500 000 on behalf of the Motsepe Foundation to the Catholic Church and the Muslim Faith in Cote d’Ivoire.

In making the donation, he said it was in appreciation of the good work being done by both faith in Ivory Coast, in Africa and in the rest of the world.

Motsepe who is a mining tycoon and owner of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns has been an avid promoter of unity among Africans.

President Motsepe met with the Cardinal of the Cote d’Ivoire Catholic Church, His Eminence Cardinal Jean-Pierre Kutwã and made a donation of USD 250 000 to the Catholic Church in Cote d’Ivoire and also met with His Eminence Cheikhoul Aima Ousmane Diakite, President of the Superior Council of Imams, Mosques and Islamic Affairs of Ivory Coast and donated USD 250 000 to the Muslim Faith in Cote d’Ivoire.

Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “We are immensely  grateful  to the Catholic Church and the Muslim Faith for the crucial  religious and spiritual work that they are doing  amongst our people in Ivory Coast and on the African Continent and globally. We are committed to working together with them and all Religious and Faith Based Organisations in Africa and worldwide,  and contribute to uniting all people from different racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.”

President Motsepe also made donations to the Catholic Church and Muslim Faith in Cameroon during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (“AFCON”) in 2022.

Dr Motsepe was accompanied by his wife Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe CEO and Co-Founder of the Motsepe Foundation, some of the CAF Vice Presidents and the General Secretary.
