Alhaji Usman Audu, the Director, Primary Health Care in Biu Local Government Area of Borno, says 534 persons have been treated of Cholera, while 13 deaths recorded between May and July 21.

Audu, who said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Biu town on Friday, added that those treated and discharged represented 85.99 per cent of the total number admitted.

He explained that the 13 deaths represented 2.09 per cent, while 74 persons, representing 11.92 per cent were still on admission.

He said that between the period under review, no fewer than 621 patients were admitted for Cholera across the council.

The director added that 373 patients were admitted at General Hospital in Biu where six of them died, while 248 were admitted at the 16 PHCs in the council where seven patients also died.

He stated that cases of cholera were no longer escalating because of the proactive measures adopted by the Borno Government through the state’s Ministry of Health and the support of the Biu Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Sule Abubakar.

According to him, items donated by Abubakar include chlorine, Oral Rehydration Solution, knapsack sprayer, doxycycline capsules, soap and hand sanitizers.

Audu, who is a Community Health Officer, urged residents of Biu to promptly report cases of any outbreak to health facilities, stressing that treatment is free.(NAN)
