Delta Traditional Rulers Back Jonathan, Okowa

Admin January 30, 2015

trad rulers delta 2In a rare rapprochement ,aimed at canvassing support of critical stakeholders for PDP governorship candidate , Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa ,over 20 traditional rulers from Anioma , Delta North met with Urhobo monarchs ,with both groups resolving to work together for the common good of all Deltans .

At the Royal fathers parley held at the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli, HRM Wilson Oharisi the third, the traditional rulers numbering over 40 from both sides, unanimously harped on their commitment to one united and indivisible Delta ,where peace ,justice and equity would prevail, condemning politics of divisiveness as unacceptable.

Speaking on behalf of the Urhobo monarchs, the Ovie of Mosogar kingdom, HRM S.O Omene described the visit as historic, as it was the first time traditional rulers from Delta North and Delta Central senatorial districts would meet to chart a common ground for the political future of the state.

According to the Ovie of Mosogar,”Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is capable of ruling Delta. The apprehension of voting for Okowa and President Goodluck Jonathan should be ruled out because “they are our sons, with the right qualifications for leadership .

“We will not let them down”.He said.

Earlier the representative of the Asagba of Asaba, leader of Anioma rulers, HRM Solomon Chukwuka ,Obi of Ute- Okpu said though traditional rulers were not involved in partisan politics ,Okowa’s victory at the February 28 governorship polls would promote unity and strengthen peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethnic groups in the state. The Obi appealed to traditional rulers in Urhobo land and the entire state as custodians of culture to inculcate in their subjects ,the values of oneness, accommodation and brotherhood in a multi-ethnic society.

Also speaking , a former Delta State deputy governor , Chief Benjamin Elue, described Okowa as a humble, liberal and detribalized Deltan who has the interest of the people at heart. Chief Elue said Okowa ‘s candidacy was a collective project of all Deltans and called on voters across the state to elect him and Jonathan ,for a better future.
