The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, says it intercepted 10,126 parcels of Cannabis sativa with a total Duty PaidValue (DPV) of N743,400,000 in different locations of the state.

The Area Comptroller, Mr. Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this while handing over the drugs to Mr. Williams Ekundayo, Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, Idiroko, on Tuesday

Afeni said that Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Marijuana is a psychoactive drug that has a devastating effect on the consumers.

He said that this was not a seizure, but a preventive measure.

According to him, without this intervention, our society would face a wave of drug-related crises and our already overstretched healthcare and rehab system.

“Its availability would have spiked drug-related health issues and overwhelmed our strained psychiatric and rehabilitation facilities.” the comptroller said.

Receiving the drugs, Ekundayo said that the seizure was another milestone achievement in the collective effort in fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

He commended the customs officials that made the seizure and restated the call for greater synergy between the NDLEA and customs service

Ekundayo warned those engaged in such nefarious business to desist from such act, stressing “if they persist, they would surely be arrested by law enforcement agencies” (NAN)
