An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that Chinonso Njoku, 29, be remanded in Kirikiri custodial facility for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

Chief Magistrate, E. Kubeinje, gave the  order pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court did not take the plea of Njoku.

Kubeinje, however, adjourned the case until Feb. 28, for mention.

The Prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, had told the court that Njoku committed the offence sometime in 2021 at Ojo Street, Shasha, Lagos.

Ajayi alleged that Njoku sexually assaulted the minor.

The offence, the prosecution said, contravenes the provisions of Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 261 states that the defendant is liable to life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence of sexual assault by penetration.(NAN)
