An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 48-year-old man, Monday Umeh, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

The police charged Umeh, who lives at 29, Ajoke St., Ago Palace Way, Okota in Lagos with defilement.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, did not take the plea of Umeh for want in jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until April 9 for legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, SP Kehinde Ajayi told the court that the offence was committed in January 2023 at Umeh’s residence.

Ajayi said that Umeh lives on the same street as the victim’s paremts.

The prosecutor said that the suspect lured the girl into his house, defiled her and warned her not to tell anyone.

The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.(NAN)
