Confusion over recovered body; driver confirms not the body of his master

Admin March 21, 2017

The Lagos Police are unsure if the body recovered from the Lagos Lagoon on Tuesday is that of Dr. Allwell Orji, who plunged on Sunday.

The police have recanted after they confirmed early on Tuesday that the the body of Dr. Orji who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Sunday had been recovered. Moments after the recovery of the body, the police announced it has recovered the body of the late Dr Orji but was quick to recant that what was recovered was not Orji according to his driver.

According to Channels TV, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, had earlier claimed that Dr. Orji’s body was found by the Marine Police, at the Onikan end of the Lagoon.

Reports from the Police authorities said the deceased, a medical doctor, had asked his driver to stop before jumping across the bridge into the water.

Until his death, Dr. Orji worked at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Surulere area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

He was said to be on his way to Victoria Island for a meeting with the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria when the incident happened.

LASEMA said there was a distress call of a man who parked his grey coloured Nissan SUV at about 4:50 pm around Adekunle and jumped into the Lagos lagoon.

The agency said the vehicle and the driver had been taken to Adeniji Adele Police Station for further investigation.

Twitter accounts say that Dr. Orji had attempted suicide four years ago.
