Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have dealt a major blow to the logistical supply chains of terrorists operating in the North East, intercepting a high-value shipment of illicit drugs and alcohol destined for the Lake Chad Islands.
The breakthrough occurred on Thursday, July 9, 2026, during an intensive stop-and-search operation conducted by Sector 3 troops along the Maiduguri–Monguno highway.
According to a statement released by Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the Theatre Command, troops intercepted a suspicious vehicle en route to Kwatan Doron Baga, a community located in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The driver and alleged courier, identified as 48-year-old Rachael Samuel, is a Chadian national hailing from Kelo in the Chari-Baguirmi Province of the Republic of Chad.
Military intelligence reveals that the prohibited cargo, valued at millions of Naira, was being smuggled directly to known terrorist strongholds within the Lake Chad region.
Among the seized contraband were:
7 compressed bundles of Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) weighing roughly 30 kilograms.
Two 10-liter containers of hydromercuric chloride, a highly lethal toxic substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die.”
48 bottles of dry gin and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages.
One mobile phone, two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, personal items, and a cache of cash.
Security experts and military intelligence have long established that insurgent groups heavily rely on narcotics, synthetic stimulants, and hard alcohol to chemically alter fighters, using them to dull fear, build false bravery, and catalyze violent attacks during operations.
“By intercepting the consignment before it reached its destination, the troops have disrupted another critical aspect of the terrorists’ support network,” Captain Goni stated, emphasizing the military’s renewed strategy to choke out the logistics that fuel the decade-long insurgency.
The Theatre Command praised the vigilance of the border-corridor troops, reassuring residents that operations targeting both active terrorists and their network of civilian collaborators would be sustained relentlessly.
Mrs. Samuel remains in military custody alongside the recovered exhibits. The military confirmed that all evidence is being secured ahead of an official handover to relevant law enforcement agencies for formal prosecution.
