The Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), in collaboration with the German Agency for International Development (GIZ), hosted a team from the Cameroon Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education who were in Lagos to understudy the Board’s administration of technical and vocational training and development in the State.

Welcoming the delegation to LASTVEB, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs. Bunmi Bada stated that Technical Education thrives in Lagos due to the free education and a robust policy of the State Government that guides the administrators.

She mentioned that both the structured and the intervention systems of training are free to enhance youth engagement, adding that its Partners also provide tools for training students while the government pays for the students’ Federal Craft Examination and National Board for Technical Education Board (NABTEB) examination among others for certification.

Bada averred that LASTVEB coordinates all certification of vocational centres in all Local governments in Lagos State. She also stressed that LASTVEB is gender sensitive which is reflected in its commitment to providing industry-responsive and gender-inclusive technical and vocational education.

While noting that the initiative is to encourage females to apply for Technical Education opportunities, the Executive Secretary said technical colleges are agents of socio-economic development, as they provide the teeming youths with critical skills that make them better citizens and the required mindset to withstand the challenges of the 21st Century.

On his part, the leader of the team and the Sub-Director of the Promotion of Youths Employment in Cameroon, Mr. Mathias Houmoussi appreciated the Acting Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Mrs. Bada for the warm welcome and knowledge acquired.

He promised to put to practice all they learnt about Technical and Vocational training in Lagos when they get back to Cameroon.

The Chief Executive Officer of GIZ Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) Cameroon, Mr. Andreas Kahler said the visit was necessary because Cameroon has to provide vocational training for vulnerable youths, especially in the Northern Region, hence they need to learn how to manage the recruitment of these youths to provide employment and recreation to engage them.
