Breaking News: Three Explosions, Gunshots Abort APC Rally in Rivers State

Three explosions and staccato gunshots conspired to abort the APC rally in Okrika, Rivers State. The rally was holding at National Secondary School, Okrika hometown of the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside. The three explosions which happened within intervals were calibrated with the first explosion the sound of a dane gun, but the loudness of the blasts increased with the two other explosions thus ending the APC supporters to scamper to safety. No casualty is reported yet but many people sustained injuries in the stampede.

However, the police on duty were able to maintain the peace prompting the supporters who had deserted the venue to return.

But barely minutes after order was restored and the dignitaries seated, unidentified gun men appeared in every direction shooting sporadically into the air. This forced supporters to run for safety. Security men at the venue advised supporters to squat and hunch their bodies in order not to be hit by bullets.

The dignitaries were quickly whisked away in the pandemonium that ensued.

Meanwhile three explosions from suspected bombs allegedly detonated by Boko Haram have occurred in Biu town of Borno State. The explosions which occurred at about 1 pm today may have killed many according to a Civilian-JTF source in Biu who said it happened at a neighbourhood known as Yamarkumi along Maiduguri road.

“There were three explosions in Yamarkumi here in Biu town. Many people have been affected; the casualty figure from what we are seeing now has surpassed that of the market suicide bombing that occurred on Thursday. Ambulances are rushing in and out for now. We will give details later“, said the source.

The bombing incident comes a day after the All Progressive Congress [APC] presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari campaigned in Borno State.
