The Police Command in Benue on Friday arraigned one Mrs. Elizabeth Kumbar before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for alleged abduction of a four-year-old boy.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kuegh Abugh, told the court that one Faith Akase of No.52 Lorkya Ako Street, High Level, Makurdi, reported the case at ‘B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi on Nov. 24, 2021.

He said he was holding brief for Insp. Veronica Shaagee and that the case was transferred from ‘B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi to the State Criminal Investigation Department in December.

Abugh said that Kumbar of No. 2 Avenue, Calabar Street, High Level, Makurdi, conspired with others and abducted the boy from their compound and took him to an unknown destination till date.

The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested during police investigation for committing the crime while others were still at large.

He further said that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested for additional time to enable him to complete it and arrest those still at large.

He said the offence contravened Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State, 2004 and Section 3 (2) of Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law of Benue State, 2017.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Dooshima Ikpambese, did not plea in the case for want of jurisdiction, but remanded the defendant at the Federal Correctional Center, Makurdi.

She adjourned the case till Feb. 16 for further mention. (NAN)
