Gunmen flaunting their weapons
Gunmen have abducted several worshippers from a mosque in Niger State during Friday prayers, marking the latest incident in a wave of mass kidnappings sweeping parts of northern Nigeria.
State Police Spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating that heavily armed assailants stormed the Kpenya Mosque in the Dekara district of Borgu Local Government Area around 2:00 p.m. local time on Friday. Prior to targeting the mosque, the attackers raided the nearby villages of Gidan-Zana and Kpenya.
“The developing report indicated that no life was lost, while a joint security detachment has been deployed to the area for assessment and rescue operations,” Abiodun said in an official statement.
While the exact number of victims remains unconfirmed by police, security forces have launched tracking operations in the surrounding region to locate and rescue the missing worshippers.
