Gunmen on rampage

Bandits have launched fresh attacks on several communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two residents, injuring another, and abducting 26 people in coordinated overnight raids.

The attacks, which occurred between Saturday and early Monday morning, targeted Tunburku, Tudun Amada, and Kallon Kura communities across different districts in the area.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS), Mr. Yunusa Shehu, stated that the assailants also rustled an unconfirmed number of livestock during the operations.

According to Shehu, the bandits launched near-simultaneous strikes on Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

“Two people, identified as Alhaji Surajo and Alhaji Ado, were killed in Tunburku, while 26 residents were abducted in Tudun Amada,” Shehu disclosed, adding that another resident, Ayyuba Usman, sustained injuries during the violence.

The Monday morning assault followed earlier raids over the weekend. On Saturday at around 9:00 p.m., the armed group invaded Kura and Kallon Kura in Danmahawayi District, rustling cattle before security forces could be fully deployed. Initial estimates placed the number of stolen cattle between 15 and 17.

In response to intelligence regarding the bandits’ escape routes, KadVS operatives, supervised by the Sector Coordinator for Giwa LGA, mobilized to track the assailants.

Personnel engaged the bandits in a firefight around midnight on Saturday, forcing them to flee and abandon the stolen livestock. Security operatives successfully recovered 19 cattle during the operation.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, stated he would provide further details after obtaining clarification on the incidents, but had not done so before press time.
