Bandits armed with sophisticated weapons have invaded villages in the Faskari Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.

The bandits, who were said to have been on rampage across three different villages in the Faskari LGA, invaded Yar Nasarawa village in the late hours of Monday, killing at least six persons.

Yar Nasarawa village shares boundary with Zamfara State and is approximately five kilometers to Faskari Local Government headquarters.

The village is located closed to the Nigerian Army Super Camp established by Brigadier General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for ‘Operation Sahel Sanity’ meant to restore peace in North-West area including Niger State.

A resident told Channels Television on a telephone call on Tuesday that the hoodlums killed six persons at Yar Nasarawa village alone and set eight cars ablaze.

“At Yar Nasarawa village alone, six people were killed and eight cars were set ablaze. One of the victims has just been buried this (Tuesday) morning in line with Islamic rites,” the source stated.

Channels Television gathered that unspecified number of people were said to have been abducted and several others wounded as a result of the attack even as six shops including grains stores and motorcycles belonging to the residents were also set ablaze.

For another resident, similar attack was carried out in Madogara village in the same local government area by another set of bandits, who rustled animals.

Police Confirm Attacks
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that six persons have been killed and 10 others wounded as a result of the attack.

Three houses and 10 vehicles were said to have been set ablaze by the hoodlums.

In a statement, police spokesman, Abubakar Aliyu, noted that bandits in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles, attacked the village.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa had since deployed the command’s tactical, operational and intelligence to the scene, and currently combing the surrounding bushes for the possible arrest of the perpetrators for diligent prosecution.
